Every voice counts. Every vote counts. WOMENS WAY urges area employers to adopt a Flex Election Day policy to enable every eligible voter to make her voice heard on Election Day, November 2, 2004.
As part of the WomenVotePA coalition, WOMENS WAY urges area employers to follow its example in adopting a Flex Election Day policy so that critical care taking responsibilities do not prevent voters from getting to the polls on November 2nd. WOMENS WAY urges area employers to help remove barriers to full political participation by encouraging employees to vote, and assuring them that they may arrive later, leave earlier, or extend their lunch hour to do so. Join the WomenVotePA coalition in adopting a Flex Election Day policy for November 2nd.
WOMENS WAY recognizes that in addition to holding down demanding jobs, some men and many women in our communities bear significant responsibility for caring for children and for elderly and disabled relatives. WOMENS WAY’s Executive Director Melissa Weiler Gerber states, "This ‘second shift’ of work can create a significant challenge for a worker seeking to cast her vote. As a society, we need to send a clear message that we value people as workers, as caregivers, as voters. Adopting a Flex Election Day policy is a simple, patriotic act every employer should undertake to ensure that no voter is left behind on Election Day."
WOMENS WAY is the nation’s oldest and largest women’s funding federation. WOMENS WAY’s proud mission is to raise money and public awareness to fight for and achieve women’s equality, safety, self-sufficiency and reproductive freedom through women-centered funding, advocacy and education.
WomenVotePA is a project of the Women’s Law Project, a WOMENS WAY member agency. WomenVotePA works through a coalition of nonprofit organizations, agencies and community groups to improve voter participation in Pennsylvania.
