About the Young Women's Initiative

The Young Women's Initiative (YWI) is a dynamic group of women under the age of 40 who are prepared to lead WOMEN'S WAY into the future. Founded in 1997, the Young Women's Initiative works collectively to increase the knowledge and awareness of women's issues in the community. HONORING: Michelle Goldberg
AUTHOR OF:The Means of Reproduction: Sex, Power, and the Future of the World

The 2010 book prize celebrates Michelle Goldberg for The Means of Reproduction: Sex, Power, and the Future of the World. In a work of incisive cultural analysis and deep reporting, Goldberg shows how the emancipation of women has become the key human rights struggle of the twenty-first century. The Means of Reproduction travels through four-continents, examining issues such as abortion, female circumcisions, and Asia's missing girls to show how the battle over women's bodies has been globalized, and how the United States, depending on who has power, alternately advanced and impeded women's rights worldwide.

The event will include the presentation of the Book Prize and remarks by author Michelle Goldberg, followed by a book signing and reception.
