Women Build at Habitat for Humanity of Chester County
September 2008
Location: Coatesville, PA 19320
Price: Donations accepted
Contact Name: Leigh Ann Bishop
Contact E-mail: leighann@hfhcc.org
Website: www.hfhcc.org
Event Description:
Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity International program that encourages women and girls to have fun and make a difference by building homes and communities. Thousands of houses have been built by women crews around the world - more than 1,000 have taken place since Women Build's official creation in 1998. Each year hundreds more homes are added as affiliates, donors and sponsors discover the impact of women volunteers and their resources.
Many volunteers come to Women Build with no construction skills. These same volunteers leave the project with a new confidence thanks to the training and hands-on construction experience, lasting friendships and the knowledge that they helped give the gift of a better life to a homeowner.
We welcome and invite a variety of participation. Whether yout skills are geared toward event planning, engineering, architecture, fundraising, or you just have a desire to help; there is a place for you at Women Build. We also need your financial donations. Habitat for Humanity of Chester County is a non-profit organization that relies on the goodwill of others to continue important projects such as Women Build.
Habitat for Humanity houses are not handouts, but rather hand-ups. Partnering families work hard to meet the "sweat equilty" requirement, by building their homes side by side with Habitat volunteers. Habitat also partners with these families by holding an interest free mortgage, thus making their dream of homeownership a reality.
The mission of Habitat for Humanity of Chester County is to provide basic, well-built, affordable, owner-occupied homes with God's people in need - in a way that builds hope, dignity and independence, develops partnerships, encourages community, involves Christians and others of good will, and cooperates with other organizations of similar purpose so that God's love is shared and celebrated.
