Enjoy house tours of Paulsdale, the Mt. Laurel birthplace of Quaker suffragist Alice Paul. Tours include a 15-minute slide show about Alice Paul’s life and work; a talk about the Paul family's daily life in the house, the restoration of the site and its present day use as a girl's leadership center; and a guided tour of the property.
Paulsdale is one of six women’s history sites that comprise “Writing Women Back Into History,” a self-guided driving tour sponsored by the Burlington County Board of Freeholders in honor of Women’s History Month.

8th Annual Yoga Unites for Livng Beyond Breast Cancer Sunday, May 16, 2010 8:30 am to 12:30 pm

200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and we hope to raise $200,000 to support these women at the 8th Annual Yoga Unites for Living Beyond Breast Cancer. The event is a basic, outdoor yoga class and will be held on Sunday, May 16, on the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum. Yoga Unites will run from 8:30-12:30 p.m. and can be performed by people of all ages and skill levels. Incorporating the benefits of yoga and healthy living with the community, Yoga Unites provides an interesting way for individuals and companies to support breast cancer awareness. Join the Alice Paul Institute for a vigil by Alice Paul’s graveside to remember the Night of Terror, a night of violence inflicted upon American suffrage prisoners who were arrested for picketing the White House on Nov. 14, 1917. Hear the story of this night and the weeks of imprisonment that 168 suffragists endured because they believed in their right to vote.
Meet in the Friends Meeting parking lot promptly at 6:30 to walk to the graveside as a group. Bring a flashlight, dress for the weather and wear shoes that can get dirty. After the vigil, warm up with hot chocolate and gingersnaps inside the meeting house.
The Alice Paul Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about the life and work of New Jersey’s most famous suffragist, Alice Stokes Paul (1885-1977), author of the Equal Rights Amendment, founder of the National Woman’s Party and a lifelong activist for women’s equality. API’s mission is to educate the public about her life, preserve historic Paulsdale, develop future leaders and work towards achieving women’s equality. Paulsdale, Alice Paul’s Mt. Laurel birthplace and family home, is a National Historic Landmark and serves as a center for celebrating women’s history and leadership. API was founded in 1985 and today has a membership of over 400 individuals and organizations.
