Title: Change two lives... BE A MENTOR
Organization: The Center Foundation
Website: www. thecenterfoundation.org
E-mail: Jane@TheCF.org or Rachel@TheCF.org
Description: WomenCare and the Young Parents Support Network (YPSN) are mentoring programs of The Center Foundation. If you have a caring heart and are a good listener, spend time supporting teen moms or adult women through difficult life transitions.
Training, activities, and on-going support are provided. Training and workshops are held in Media but mentors and their matches meet at their own schedule and where they choose. Other volunteer opportunities are also available.
WomenCare and YPSN are unique, holistic, woman-centered mentoring programs that help people be all they want to be. Our goals are to help disadvantaged women and teen parents attain greater self-sufficiency while dealing with challenges such divorce, widowhood, abuse, rehabilitation, joblessness, teen parenthood, and other obstacles.
Spend an hour or two a week being a supporter, friend, resource, and guide while developing a relationship that will change your life too.
Share what you know. Mentoring helps build friendships and community. The next group training for Mentors will be October 6, 2007, but online and other training is offered.
Call Jane or Rachel at 610-565-6171 for more information or to register.

Contact: http://www.phmc.state.pa.us/bah/doh/internship/summer2007.asp#minority
Website: www.phmc.state.pa.us/bah/doh/internship/summer2007.asp#minority
Description:
Six paid Minority Internships will be offered during Summer 2007: two each at the Independence Seaport Museum and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, both in Philadelphia; and two at PHMC, either at its Harrisburg headquarters or one of its 25 field sites around the Commonwealth. Internships are available in a variety of fields and professional areas, ranging from marketing to curation, historic preservation to archival practice, development to museum education. Interns serve for 12 weeks and are paid $4000.

The Minority Student Internship Program, funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, through the offices of Pennsylvania State Representative James R. Roebuck, Jr., is designed to introduce upper level undergraduate and graduate students of color to careers in museums and related fields. It represents a commitment by PHMC and PFMHO, as well as collaborating institutions, to increase the participation of minorities in the museum field; and recognizes that pre-professional experience in museums and cultural institutions is key to achieving this goal. Interns work closely with a staff mentor, who both guides the student on specific projects and orients him or her to the broader context of the work. The Minority Student Internship Program encourages students to earn academic credit for their internships and work closely with faculty to ensure that their students have an outstanding experience and adhere to all academic program requirements.
